JOY of the Good News

Just imagine being one of the shepherds in the fields at night, tending their sheep, going about the same oh, same oh, and the heavens light up with a host of angels accompanying the Angel of the Lord.  How their hearts must have filled with wonder and amazement at the announcement of this great occasion.  The Angel of the Lord delivered one of the most JOYOUS messages of all time.. the Messiah that the prophets had prophesied would come for years, was now here.

You have to wonder what was going through these shepherds minds when they left their flocks to seek out the Saviour...the prophesied one who would wash away all their sins.

Everything is confirmed by one or two witnesses.  And we not only know that Mary and Joseph had personally been talked to by Gabriel, the arch angel, but also Elizabeth confirmed it too as she spoke to Mary as "mother of my Lord."  Then the Angel of the Lord spoke to the shepherds with a host of angels as his witness to the birth of Jesus as well.  As we  go farther into chapter  2 of Luke, we see that Simon and Anna both prophesied over Him as the redeemer.

After Luke tells us about Mary and Joseph doing everything acccording to the law, he quickly skips over the childhood of Jesus and takes us to the point where he is 12 years old. Having left Mary and Joseph agasp of not being found amongst  them on their journey home, they found him in the temple teaching.  Those in the temple, as well as Mary and Joseph, were amazed at His wisdom.  Jesus  knew He was, the Son of God, and was to be about His Heavenly Father's business, but He also knew He was to be obedient to Mary and Joseph.  There was a time and season for His earthly ministry to begin.  So He went back to his parents' home , growing in stature and wisdom until His time of ministry began.
